The 1975 comes to Greek Theatre Berkeley on Friday 22nd April 2016
Sex, love, and ethereal rock n’ roll. This pretty much sums up the 1975 experience. The band has been around for over a decade, keeping it low amongst indie circles. Yet word has gotten around fast, that their indie cult following has swelled and is now bursting at the seams on a global scale. Catch 1975 in action. But you’ve got to move fast enough, before those tickets slip through your fingers…
1975 was formed sometime in 2002 in Manchester, England. Their original and present line-up consists of Matthew Healy(vocals, guitar), Adam Hann (guitar), George Daniel (drums, backing vocals), and Ross MacDonald (bass). They were just a bunch of dreamers who clung to the hopes that someday, their rock n’ roll dreams would all come true. As teenagers, they played covers of their fave rock songs as their repertoire. Later on, they dabbled on songwriting and started performing their original materials. This gained them some traction in the UK indie scene. Their breakthrough single was "The City," which garnered attention from radio stations in the UK. It paved the way for more commercial single successes like "Sex" and "Chocolate." Though 1975 chose to maintain their ‘indie’ stance, the world could not help but notice and be drawn to their enigmatic appeal. They performed alongside rock heavyweights like Muse, The Rolling Stones, and The Neighbourhood, as well as countless gigs and festivals that include Reading and Leeds, Freedom Festival, and Coachella.
