Trombone Shorty is an American musician, producer and actor hailing from New Orleans, Louisiana. A child prodigy, Shorty appeared on stage with Bo Diddley at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival aged 4, and by age six he was a bandleader. His critically acclaimed debut album, Swingin' Gate, was released in 2002, followed by two more studio albums and four live albums, but it was 2010's Backatown that brought him mainstream recognition. Backatown debuted at number one on Billboard magazine's Contemporary Jazz Chart, staying there for nine consecutive weeks. The album was in the chart's Top Ten for over six months and was nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best Contemporary Jazz Album category. In February 2017, Shorty was signed to Blue Note Records, releasing his debut album with Blue Note, Parking Lot Symphony, later that year.
