Bloc Party will be playing at UC Berkeley's Greek Theatre on Saturday June 14th, celebrating twenty years since their SIlent Alarm album and joined by the rock band Metric. Bloc Party, the English band founded in London in the 90s, blends through the genres of punk rock, art punk, and dance music seamlessly. Started in 1999 by band mates Kele Okereke and Russell Lissak, the group took off. After performing at The UK’s Reading Festival and a slot on BBC 1 Radio, the group was destined for mainstream success. And that came - in 2005 they released the legendary record Silent Alarm, which is also the namesake of this tour, and blew up around the globe. Silent Alarm was named Indie Album of The Year at the 2006 PLUG Awards, and reached Platinum status (a.k.a, sold 1 million copies) in Britain that year as well. And after the 2007 release of A Weekend in the City, the group reached #12 on The Billboard charts. They have put out four more albums since, and sold over three million copies of their records worldwide. The group has toured across the world and has sold out shows in Los Angeles, Sydney, New Zealand, and, of course - London.

Metric will be joining Bloc Party for a handful of shows on the SIlent Alarm Tour, including the one at Greek Theatre on the 14th of June. Metric is a Canadian indie rock group who formed in Toronto in 1998. The band is made up of Emily Haines on lead vocals, piano and harmonica, James Shaw on guitar, Joshua Winstead (bass and synthesizers), and Joules Scott-Key on drums. The group took off when they released their second album, Live it Out, in 2005 and found critical acclaim - winning Canadian Album of the Year at the Polaris Music Awards, and Best Alternative Album at the Juno Awards in 2006. They have recently been named one of Rolling Stones 50 greatest Canadian artists of all time, and have the catalogue and touring repertoire to show for it. Having toured across the world and in every continent except Antarctica, the group has had smashing shows with tens of thousands of fans screaming their lyrics - most notably at festivals like Coachella, Austin City Limits, Lollapalooza, and Glastonbury.

SO, Berkeley, are you ready to rock?! These two lock band legends haven’t toured together in almost twenty years, and will be performing some of the best music of their discography. Case in point, you won’t want to miss this show at Greek Theatre, and we got you covered on tickets. Grab yours, and grab one for your high school garage band bestie - we’ll see you in June!
