Everyone here at The Greek Theatre Berkeley in sunny Southern California is so excited to welcome The Flaming Lips and Modest Mouse to the stage as they take on the country this summer for their American Tour 2025, and bringing ‘FRIKO and DEHD along the way. The tour will see the groups take on Atlanta, a night at the Westville Music Bowl over in New Haven, and the entire southern coast of California - including a night in the Greek Theatre in L.A., and then right here at Greek Theatre Berkeley.
The Flaming Lips got their start in the mid 80s in Oklahoma City, but really saw mainstream appeal around the turn of the century in the early 2000s. Formed by brothers Wayne and Mark Coyne around the time they got to high school, the band started debuting music to the world in 1986 with their first album Here It Is - but began to see widespread adoption and jamming to their hits with their 1993 album Transmission from the Satellite Heart. The band started seeing their hits used for commercials and TV shows, and with the release of their 1999 album The Soft Bulletin, the group was thrusted into stardom. They are the pioneers of the headphone DJ set - using the method to fill in the complex parts of their songs that they could not play on the road with just three people - and soon toured in places like South by Southwest, and linked up with Modest Mouse for their legendary Unlimited Sunshine Tour. Their 2025 tour will be the first time they have gone on the road with the Modest Mouse men since then.
Modest Mouse came on the scene in the early 90s over on the Pacific- NorthWest coast in Washington, and found themselves at the forefront of pioneering genres like post punk and emo. The three OGs of the band all met organically, and started making music with each other on a shared love of punk music and eclectic punk venues. They eventually broke through to the mainstream and gained popularity in all corners of the music sphere - scoring almost a perfect 10 from Pitchfork Media for their EP The Moon & Antarctica, and platinum records for the album and their following ones. Modest Mouse creates atmospheric, rage-inspired music that feels so encapsulating when you hear it, but is so tender when you read the lyrics. They found their lane decades ago, and are now ready to reshare those emotions with a new generation of punk lovers across the country. Now all we need is for you to grab your tickets!
Like we said - you won’t want to miss this tour. Get your tickets today, and we can’t wait to see you on the dance floor! Let’s go!
